LOOK CLOSER

You may already know our May Birchbox theme is It’s All In The Details. From those simple tweaks that can transform your beauty routine, to the little things that pull our homes and style together, we’ll be focusing on just that all month long. We’ve reached out to some of our friends – who just happen to be experts on jewellery, plants, and home decor – for some quick easy tips to help you make the most of the details of your life this month. Keep an eye on the blog throughout May for all our findings.

THE RETURN OF GOLDIE HAWN

If you’ve got time for a cinema trip this month, celebrate the return of a true star to the big screen! We loved Goldie Hawn in The First Wives Club and Death Becomes Her, and now she’s back after a 15-year break. She stars alongside Amy Schumer in Snatched (out May 19th), where the pair play a mother and daughter whose holiday doesn’t exactly go as planned. We’re also binge-watching the great Dear White People on Netflix, while looking forward to the return of Master Of None too. And, going back to those “details”, check out the first three of our Birchbox Essentials tutorials on YouTube. Simple, quick tutorials to help you master beauty basics and beyond, starring our team.

FOCUS ON FAMILY

Both books we’re recommending this month share the theme of family. If you have a sibling or even a close friend who is just completely unlike you in every way (but you love unconditionally anyway), Don’t Be A Dick, Pete by Stuart Heritage should be added to your non-fiction must-read list. Stuart’s witty and honest features and columns about his life and adventures in fatherhood are already one of the best features of The Guardian, and this is set to be another treat! One more must-read book about family – but fiction this time – is The Last Wave, the debut novel by Gillian Best, following the life and relationships of Martha, set between the 1950s and present day. Highly recommended.

ADORE & ENDURE EUROVISION

The Eurovision Song Contest Final is happening this month, airing live from Kyiv, Ukraine on BBC1 on May 13th. Put any kids to bed, stock up your kitchen with drinks and snacks that hail from around Europe, invite a few friends over and settle down for the always-entertaining Eurovision Song Contest. Will Brexit mean we’re headed for “nul points”? Only time will tell…

GO FOR (MARBLE & ROSE) GOLD

We are all a bit obsessed with this month’s Birchbox design, which follows our obsession with all things marble and rose gold. Not only is your Birchbox packed with 5 luxe beauty treats – including one full-size mascara! – it’s utterly beautiful. Our very own Lou designed it (watch her chatting about it here) and it’s a keepsake that we think will look gorgeous on any dressing table or bathroom shelf. Not a subscriber yet? Get yours now!
